First visit to the University of Utah clinic. The bus trip seemed to take forever—but it was worth it. I had an appointment with Dr. E____ but was seen by Dr. P____. They work together and both will be treating me. I’ve never seen a doctor as nice as Dr. P____—he seemed very thorough and knowledgeable. I think he knows ten times more about AIDS than Dr. F______, my doctor in Ogden. The plan is that the U. will consult with F______. If he doesn’t like that, I’ll fire him again and just see E_____ and P______.

They took several blood tests and set an appointment for next week. Dr. P_____ said I should be completely recovered by now and it’s obvious that I’m not. He suspects that some other disease is starting to surface. So if I don’t start to feel better, it’s back to the hospital. He started paperwork for the state to provide AZT, which should happen next week. Even though it’s illegal, he collects drugs from patients who don’t need them anymore, so he had two weeks worth of AZT to give me. Since I’m allergic to Septra and have a full prescription, he asked if he could have it to pass on to someone who can’t afford it. He also assured me that if the state took awhile, he’d somehow get AZT for me. Pretty cool for someone I just met. I really trust the man and feel good about being treated by him.

I still worry about how Luis is dealing with all this. I hope it doesn’t scare him away. While I don’t want to die, I know we all have to do it sometime. I also know that I’m headed for a much better world after this one. I hope you all accept Jesus Christ in your hearts so that we can share that world together. Believe me, I know it’s there waiting—it just depends on how we live here. I hope I can be your teacher when you get there. Just give me that chance.
