First day of my “moving sale.” Quite a lot of people had shown up by 10:00 and they tore through the place as if they owned it. It’s pitiful how people in Utah are so anxious to get something for nothing. People went through closets and drawers without even asking. I’d hate to go through that again. There was a steady stream of people (more than I’d expected) and quite a lot sold. Ray was off so he spen the day helping.
We didn’t get to leave the house till 5:30. I did more today than everything in the last two weeks put together. I dread one more day of this. The physical part is hard enough but the psychological is much worse. I think I will be able to make enough to get moved and still have some things for a new apartment. I’ll just have to wait and see what happens. I have to keep reminding myself that things always could be worse. It reminds me of when Mom got sick and sold her things when moving to Adam’s Place. She never did collect her money. How could someone do that to a dying person?
I guess I could write a book about the scams I’ve seen since moving back to Utah. It makes it hard to trust people anymore. I never had these problems in San Francisco. I hate to think of some of the things people have to live with. How many people have Ted and Steve J_____ ripped off? And I bet they just keep right on doing it. It’s really not much of a world to be leaving. Why did it take me so long to learn how most people are? They line up if they even think they can get something for free.
