advocate.jpgThe latest issue of The Advocate hit the stands yesterday and the cover story is a feature on gay Mormons and the Church’s quiet, but persistent, battle against gay marriage rights. The story’s primary focus (and cover subject) is a casual friend of mine, Aaron (along with his boyfriend Steven), who a few years ago started a group called Gay LDS Young Adults (GLYA).

I haven’t yet had a chance to read anything beyond the online excerpt, but it’s an accurate story from what I’ve been told. I’m excited regardless though; Aaron’s a great guy and GLYA has helped a lot of people. More visibility for us homo Momos is always a good thing, and with any luck the story should help GLYA reach out even more. As I’m sure many of you know, the suicide rate among gay youth is higher than average - and among gay Mormons, it’s even higher.

Having had a LDS bf, I sympathize with those who still struggle with their religious feelings.

I think you all are confused. Mormons don’t believe in being gay and this thing about the church “quietly” trying to accept it is completely false. How dare you post such an awful tihng as that. WE don’t support the gay community but we also don’t hate them either. If they are gay and a mormon, it’s wrong for its against the belief of Mormonism and they know it. I don’t hate the gay community but I hate how you put down the LDS church because its different and unhuman to most of you. I hope I didn’t offend you guys but ur ad offended me in a way that you can’t understand.
