I applied for a job yesterday that I really want. It’s at another local TV station and, for once, I’m really, really qualified to do it. Now I just have to convince them of that. I hope they call for an interview; I waited all day today with no luck. Pray, cross your fingers, do whatever it is you do for me, okay?

Tomorrow David & Chris arrive for their week-long visit. Talk about excitement! For months Patrick and I have been planning the week. The four of us are going to Las Vegas for the latter half of the trip, but the first half will be all the typical Utah tourist stuff, which means a lot of nature and a lot of Mormon crap. Well, it’s crap to me because I’ve seen it all for years. But to outsiders, I guess it’s pretty interesting. With any luck, we’ll even spot a real-life polygamist family.

If you think I’m kidding, you really haven’t been to Utah before. While increasingly rare, I still occassionally spot a group of braided and bonnetted young women in long, long dresses. It happens every few months and I’m due for a sighting now - what a Utah story that’d be for David and Chris to tell once they get home!

I’m really curious to see what our east-coasters think of the west, of Salt Lake City and its “culture,” of Temple Square, the Great Salt Lake, Park City, the Great Basin desert, the Wasatch Mountains, and all the rest of it. The North Carolina boys have never been west, except for the trip to San Francisco when Patrick and I met them for the first time, so Utah might be a bit of a culture shock.

I can’t wait to spend time with the boys and just have a hell of a lot of fun. We’ve got a pretty packed schedule - so I’m making no promises - but I’m gonna try to post while they’re here, especially since I’ve been so quiet lately. Stay tuned and see…

    Nick,

Wishing you the best on that job.

Do you know who your competition is for the position? I know a few Italians: Guido, etc., who can “take” of things…for a price. ;-)
You, Patrick, David, and Chris have a fab time tripping around Utah, you hear? And take lots of pics…. ;-)

I’m jealous, mate. Have a great time. Don’t worry about your readers, desperate for any crumb that falls from your literary table. ;-). Just give us the skinny when they’ve gone. As for me, I’ll be in London next week for the Chelsea Flower Show, but hey, not everyone can have fun.

Oh I can’t wait to live vicariously through accounts of their Utahn touristy activities. And that job is so yours. It has “Nick” written all over it. Like my diary. ;-)
