After yesterday’s post, I reminded my best friend about the “3 adjective” conversation I referred to - a conversation we’d had about 7 years ago.

The reminder elicited the following exchange:
Best Friend: “It’s so true. I still wouldn’t call you nice. There are a million great things I can say about you, but ‘nice’ just isn’t one of them.”
Me: “I think I’m a very nice person!”

A snort from the best friend.

“You’re friendly, and you’re kind to people,” she says. “But that’s different than nice. You have a really sharp tongue and you’re not afraid to use it if someone crosses you.”
“I think that’s called being gay.”
“It’s called being a bitch.”
“Same thing.”

And all this time I thought I was just a sarcastic, sharp- tongued, foul-mouthed bastard with a heavy dose of ‘tude. Oh, the relief! It’s like coming round from a Grand-mal and being told, ‘Eh, it’s just Tourette’s.’

p.s. you may be all those things best friend said but I have an e-mail from you with nice written all over it. :-)

It’s true; there are so many wonderful things to say about Nick, but ‘nice’ just isn’t in the mix. Certainly kind and thoughtful, but bitchy is putting it mildly.

…This coming from the other half: The Cruelest Asshole. We’re so perfect for each other! :-)

Nick, why not ask your parents and sibs what’s their three word adjectives of you?

  4. Chris. Says:

Dude, you were totally nice to me.

But yeah, I can see bitch. heheh

    Hey Happy Pants!
I thought of you today. I was getting a haircut and thumbing through some home design magazine and who do I see has a collection at Bed, Bath and Beyond (I think that’s the chain, might be Linens N Things) but the object of your affection Nate what’s his name. He is cute. You’ve got great taste!

One of the underlying morals of the play Into The Woods is that “nice is different than good.”

A nice person is not necessarily a good person and a good person just might not be all that nice.
What to be, what to be?

OH, my other fav moral of the story is “Opportunity is NOT a lengthy visitor.”

    Later, man
