This afternoon CNN finally put up an AP story about MegaPlex yanking Brokeback, and it’s already the most talked about story at Technorati.

Because of the Tribune and D-News articles I posted, Yahoo! search is sending quite a few news-seekers over here (which often means Google’s not far behind), and I don’t have anything to say on the subject. It’s old news to me because I suspected something like this would happen all along.

When Brokeback originally appeared on the MegaPlex website in early December (advertising a December 16 opening, by the way), and then suddenly disappeared when Focus Features reportedly changed its national roll-out schedule, I told all my friends that I was sure it was really Larry H. Miller refusing to let gay cowboys play in his yard.

It does sound like there’s an unofficial boycott of all LHM enterprises happening, if only because smart homos know better than to patronize homophobic businesses. As for the not-so-smart homos (and dare I say that’s quite a few), hopefully there’ll be sufficient peer pressure to keep them away, too.

This just shows that LHM is a puppet on the strings of the first presidency

Have you seen what blurbomat.com has said about this? I especially like the comment from Scott McCoy at the end…

All of us over here at Dicentra are boycotting the Larry H. as well.

lhm won’t play an imoral movie but his company prestige financial is ripping people off and breaking all kind of state and federal laws, I know I used to work there. No state offcials would listen to me

I am so sick of all of the POOR BLEADING HEART LIBRERALS that just don’t understand a thing about the natural ways of life. Take your ranting about Larry H Miller to somewhere or someone who cares like your gender-benders in arms in P Town, MA or Brattleboro VT!

LHM ownes the business and can do what he wants. I am positive that his business will not suffer from this one bit!

I found your site by searching Google and now I am entralled. Thank you for putting opinions out there and letting others do the same. I wanted to post my thoughts on good ol Larry…
So I know there is a lot of comments about Larry Miller and Brokeback Mountain and whatnot. Some people say that it was about Hate. Some people say it was about choice. I say it was about bending.
There was an agreement to play the movie. He, and his company, reneged on his commitment shortly prior to showtime.
And all because he has ‘beliefs’ against it and he bent under the pressure of other people.
Now, for all intents and purposes, one could assume that he does believe in Witchcraft (Harry Potter), murder and tourture (various Horror flicks, including Saw 2 and Hostel), and being sexually confused, as in Alexander (which I personally found to be one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen).
So not to be on my high horse or anything, but I do think that if you make a commitment to play something, knowing what it is about, you should not cancel it just because you are uncomfortable with the topic.
Personally, I was not actually going to make the trek to go see the movie. I was going to wait, like I always do, until it comes out on DVD. That way I can watch it at my leisure with all the lights on.
Now, I do want to make the trek to go see it. If for no other reason than to keep its streak alive. Brokeback Mountain currently has the highest gain per screen of all the movies released recently. Utah, despite Larry’s ‘crushing’ of the film is ranked 12th in per screen earnings.
    It makes you think…

“I think it sets an example for all the people in Utah and, like I said before, he’s my new hero,” said Gayle Ruzicka, president of the Utah Eagle Forum. “It’s such a terrible show, and it is such a horrible message. I just think (pulling the show) tells the young people especially that maybe there is something wrong with this show.”

But apparently, there is nothing wrong with cutting someone’s toe off with hedgeclippers….
